Vada Chennai (North Chennai) is no different. Visaranai is probably the most realistic portrayal of the harrowing hell-holes within the Indian police system. The national award winner Aadukalam was a riveting story set in the until-then unexplored zone of cock-fighting. Polladhavan rocked the box-office by depicting a common man’s trials and tribulations after losing his only possession, his motorcycle. He was at the top of his artistic game in all his previous movies. Vetrimaran’s work, are prime illustrations of this evolution. A combination of realism and unexplored themes have enabled this ever-evolving industry to undertake what could be called its fastest evolutionary climb, over the last ten years. While watching Vada Chennai, I couldn’t help but admire the finesse and maturity that Tamil Cinema has elevated itself to in the last decade.
